Siegert's House

Short facts

  • Chemnitz
  • Worth seeing

The only remaining baroque façade in Chemnitz city centre immediately catches the eye among the many different architectural styles.

The house with its ornate pink baroque façade on the edge of the market square doesn't fit in at all with the times and somehow also doesn't fit in with this city. And yet at least its namesake is decisive for Chemnitz history, as it was Johann Georg Siegert who paved the way for seven Macedonian merchants so that they could lay the foundation stone for the Chemnitz textile industry.
