With a multi-faceted selection of new productions as well as popular staging classics, Schauspiel and Figurentheater welcome their guests to the Spinnbau.
Acting director Carsten Knödler not only invites renowned guests to direct plays, he also stages them himself in his own house. His preference is for American and Russian realists such as Arthur Miller or Anton Chekhov, but also for German classics as well as adaptations of world literature and musical productions. Light-hearted entertainment for the whole family such as the traditional Christmas fairy tale and the annual open-air summer theatre on the Küchwald stage have also become excellently established. The Schauspielhaus will be structurally upgraded from spring 2022 after 40 years of uninterrupted performance - the ensembles of the Schauspiel and the Figurentheater will therefore conquer interim venues in the former VEB Spinnereimaschinenbau Chemnitz - known as SPINNBAU for short - for the next two years.
Figurine Theatre
On threads, rods or directly with their own fingers - in figure theatre many types of puppets and objects are guided through moving stories. The ensemble's repertoire ranges from fairy tale classics by Grimm or Andersen to adaptations of well-known children's books and utopian or historical material for young people and adults. The team led by director Gundula Hoffmann is particularly concerned with challenging topics such as bullying or flight and migration as well as intergenerational projects.
